RAID TAN HILL 2012
there may not be snow!

For the first time in many years there was not even a sprinkling of the white stuff on the 8th January 2012. Even the hilltops were clear.

This was made even more poignant by the fact that the Box Hill Mob produced and performed their own version of White Christmas specially for the occasion!

I'm dreaming of a white Tan Hill
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the moor tops glisten
And children listen
To hear air-cooled engines in the snow.

I'm dreaming of a white Tan Hill
With every wheel nut I make tight.
May your cars be shiny and bright
And may all your Raid Tan Hills be white

Wonderful stuff! As to the Raid itself - in all over eighty A series vehicles made it up to the UK's highest pub plus a 600cc air cooled Trabant, an air cooled flat twin Ural motorcycle combination and several Citroen Bxs!!

Some thirty 2CVers stayed over on the Sunday night and were treated to a great evening of folk music, pop music, poetry and even a bit of music hall.

The prize for the oldest vehicle went to Nigel Brown in his 1958 Bijou. The farthest travelled UK participants were Sarah and Richard Wilmot who came 350 miles from Somerset but the prize was won by Dominique Tournette who came all the way from St Germain du Corbeis near Alencon in France to clock up 530 miles, a Raid record.

Thanks to everybody who helped in running the event and especially Sarah Monaghan who got up at 6 am. to prepare three and a half gallons of mulled wine, Robert Harrington who did all the printing, Sarah and her staff at Tan Hill who managed to feed nearly 200 people in just over an hour and finally to Tony Shields of 2CV City without whose generous financial support we would not be able to continue to keep Raid Tan Hill a completely free event.

Thanks to everybody who came and see you all again in January 2013, there may be snow!
